Daily cleaning costs more than three visits a week, but it also means the office never sits neglected for two days between visits. Out of hours work, evenings, weekends, anything before 7am, usually carries a premium, for the same reason any trade charges more to work unsociable hours. Specialist areas push the price up too. A washroom takes longer than an equivalent patch of open desk space, and a working kitchen needs more attention than either. Location plays a smaller part than people assume. Rates shift slightly between a city centre and a small town, but nowhere near as much as the size and frequency of the job itself.

A cleaner working in central Manchester might charge £22 an hour. The same job in a smaller town twenty minutes away comes in closer to £16. That’s the real spread across the UK, per cleaner, per hour, and it only covers time actually spent on site. Supervision, equipment, insurance, the admin behind running a contract properly, none of that shows up in an hourly figure. It’s exactly why a quote built purely on an hourly rate rarely matches what the job ends up costing.
Does the Size of Your Office Affect Cleaning Costs?
Size affects cost, but not by simple multiplication. Regular cleaning generally runs £0.15 to £0.30 per square foot, and that figure actually creeps down as a building gets bigger. A cleaner sweeping through open floor space in one pass works faster per square foot than one zigzagging between five small offices and a stationery cupboard. Ten times the floor space rarely means ten times the bill.

An office with staff in every day, clients walking through reception, deliveries at the door, needs a daily clean. Skip a day or two and the gap starts showing by Thursday afternoon. None of these need to sit in the regular schedule. Most get added when they’re actually needed and priced separately from the core visit.

Yes, and not for a vague reason about appearances. A client walking into reception, a candidate sitting through an interview, a member of staff who spends eight hours a day in the building, all form an opinion of the business based partly on how clean it is, whether anyone intended that or not. Paying for consistent, professional cleaning is cheaper than the alternative, which is nobody officially responsible for it and standards slipping quietly until somebody finally says something.
